Spencer Cline to give FTD presentation for ADRC Feb. 19
Spencer Cline, whose 3,500 mile bike ride recently raised $57,848 for the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, will give a presentation on FTD Feb. 19.
“With the presentations, I really go over FTD and the different variants of FTD, like signs and symptoms,” said Cline, an AFTD Georgia ambassador. “And I share my experience with it as well.”
Cline was 13 years old when he lost his father, who had been in his early 40s when FTD symptoms first appeared. It took medical professionals seven years to pinpoint the disease.
Now, Cline, 26, seeks to educate the masses about FTD.
“Dementia is an umbrella term that covers different forms of FTD,” Cline says. “Each form of dementia is different, and not all dementias just affect memory and older people.”
Frontotemporal dementia typically impacts people between ages 45 and 64, according to the National Institute of Aging.
“My dad was sharp as a tack and would remember credit card numbers and all that but it affected empathy,” Cline said.
Cline’s presentation for the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will also include time for attendee questions. All Care Partners are welcome, even those who are not navigating FTD, specifically.
“I think it could be helpful for anyone with regards to dementia,” Cline says.
The presentation will take place Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. EDT, and will last approximately 30 minutes.
