Letter from Leadership
Temperatures are already pushing 90 in Central Florida, and they will only climb higher as the summer months approach. So we’ve stacked this issue of Care Partner Connection with articles dedicated to thriving amid the year’s hottest days.
We spoke with Dementia Care Specialist Teepa Snow for her advice on hacking hydration, and we also wrote about avoiding negative heat outcomes. We’ve also put our own twist on the Summer Reading List, offering up suggestions within the Care Partnership space that should be on your To Be Read list, if you keep one.
This issue is also full of practical tips related to showering your person, supporting Care Partners, and creating a Caregiver Bill of Rights.
As always, we’ve got news stories related to Alzheimer’s and dementia research, and we’ve got our own exciting news to share, too!
Our incredible Director of Arts & Wellness, Ashley Gravatte, was named an Orlando Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree, and she is continuing to expand the Music Box Initiative.
Our fabulous Alexandra Garnier-Mercier was named a Seminole County Committee on Aging member, meaning she will be educating county commissioners on aging-related issues, with a specific focus on being the voice for the Care Partners.
We had an absolutely amazing morning run at Grand Living Park at Lake Mary earlier this month, raising $10,000. I would call that a success!
Looking ahead, we have Dementia Caregiver Connection on May 1, and a new round of Dignified Dementia Care: A Partnership with Edith Gendron beginning May 2. This month, our Self-Care Saturday yoga and journaling course will also take place the first Saturday of the month, May 3, instead of the second Saturday. And we have our online Mindfulness & Meditation class May 5.
As always, I am so grateful to be in community with you.
Until next time,
